The academy has fallen into the "let's never allow anyone to feel disappointed in life" category by making this change. If someone is a good composer and writes the best music ever, why should it matter that someone else didn't. Except that people who write trash and call it music will never get a chance at an Oscar if we don't change the rules. This mentality is pervasive and demoralizing.
